He discovered Rhett and Link through a Ray William Johnson video. Kyle's been writing his own music for about three years.  But he says it's gotten better since learning more about theory more recently.  He's also been learning several instruments:

I leaned guitar mainly from private lessons, but I've also learned some from books and YouTube videos. Also, I took piano lessons for a year.  I took a Percussion Ensemble class for a year in school, then went on to be the percussion section leader in the band for the following two years.  I know some ukulele and harmonica from books, and some bass because of its similarity to guitar.
